About the Author

John F. Clark lives in Columbia, South Carolina, where he is a writer and volunteer tour guide. Other books he has authored include Capitol Steps and Missteps and Hiking South Carolina. He previously worked in state and federal government and taught political science at three universities. A US Army veteran, he holds an AB from Davidson College and a PhD. from Syracuse University, with additional studies at the University of Paris and the University of Addis Ababa. John is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina, is a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto and the Army Commendation Medal, and has served on numerous civic and professional governing boards.Patricia A. Pierce lives in Columbia, South Carolina and is president of Capital Consulting Group of the Carolinas, a government relations and lobbying firm. She previously taught composition at the University of South Carolina, Midlands Technical College, and Tallahassee Community College and English as a second language in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Japan. She also served as research director for the South Carolina Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Patricia holds degrees from Erskine College, Winthrop University, and the University of South Carolina.
