Words and Wine Author Talk Story

Each month Kona Stories hosts an event with local and traveling authors. This event happens the First Tuesday evening of the month starting at 6 PM. Authors are available to talk story while you are getting your plate of appetizers and glass of complimentary wine. Authors then give a 15 minute talk about their book and themselves, the writing and publishing process or a short reading from the book. After all the authors presentations there is a time for individual questions and book signings with the authors. Expect 2 - 3 authors to attend each month and the evening to wrap up around 8 PM. Dress is Aloha casual wear.

Amy Campbell Patterson was born and raised along the shores of Lake Michigan.  She wrote professional legal briefs for nearly twenty years before electing to write personal stories.  In 2012, the author adopted the daughter she had always dreamed of.  One year later, she was inspired to move her large family of eight to Hawaii with not much more than the shirts on their backs.  This book details those two life-changing experiences and explains to readers how they, too, can make their wildest dreams come true.

Separated literally a world apart, this mother and daughter were each brokenhearted from different forms of abandonment by their biological mothers. Similarly, each have (or had) to face life-threatening diseases as well. Joined through a series of miracles to become adoptive mother and daughter, they were each made emotionally whole again. The two now live happily together in paradise with their large, loving family. This is the true story of their journey to find one another. It describes the tale of how they ended up on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, halfway between each of their respective birthplaces of China and Michigan.

Dreaming of a Daughter is a true story of their journey to find one another.  It describes the take of how they ended up on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, halfway between each of their respective birthplaces of China and Michigan.

Donna Beumler is a former criminal prosecutor, defense attorney, and superior court judge. After an amazing career in the criminal justice system which spanned nearly thirty years, Donna’s experience, expertise, and quite vivid imagination took her on a journey of reflection which resulted in the novel Criminal/Lawyer, a legal thriller. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Donna lived and worked primarily in northern California and in southeastern Arizona, near the border with the Republic of Mexico. She now makes her home on Hawaii Island, where she writes, snorkels, and plays a totally embarrassing game of golf.

Told with a rare and visceral authenticity, the novel Criminal/Lawyer is a spellbinding legal drama steeped in inside knowledge of the world of the criminal justice system. This is the story of attorney Alice Dreyer, and of her clients: murderers, rapists, drug dealers and thieves; she represents them all. Awash in the dark and sometimes deranged world of crime and criminals,

Alice’s colleagues will become her strongest supporters and most cherished friends, until a shocking betrayal forces Alice to chart a perilous course between right and wrong, justice and injustice, criminal and criminal lawyer. Reviewer Sherri Fulmer Moorer (Readers’ Favorites) has said of Criminal/Lawyer that the novel is “so well written, I thought I was reading a true, first-hand account. The story is told with passion and knowledge, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys legal thrillers.”

Angela Leslee

Born in England, Angela’s family emigrated to Rochester, NY when she was 13, at the height of Beatle mania. In 1994 she continued her journey West, arriving in Kona, Hawaii with her youngest of 3 daughters, 6 suitcases and a couple of thousand dollars.

At the Hawaiian Islands School of Massage, Angela discovered her passion for bodywork. In 2006 she founded the Aloha Massage Academy in Kainaliu, where she continues to teach.

Angela loves to walk, be in nature and is crazy for adventure. So, it came as no surprise to her friends and family, when in 2016 she announced she would be walking the Camino de Santiago (a 500-mile pilgrimage across Northern Spain). What she hadn’t counted on, was that her online blog, a tool to keep family and friends apprised of her journey, would turn itself into a book, knocking another item off her bucket list.

The Way of Love – on the Camino de Santiago

There must be easier ways to heal a broken heart than walking 500 miles across Spain. But it’s hard to imagine one filled with more adventure, laughter and excitement.  The author sets off armed with idealistic expectations and a backpack.  But then things quickly get real on the Camino, and she soon learns a thing or two about humility, vulnerability and letting go.  This many-faceted journey forces her to confront her fears of walking alone in a foreign country. The luxury of time allows her to take a long, hard look at some of her cherished beliefs. Then ultimately, she makes a surprising discovery.
