A Football Story examines the journey of Mike Wolf from the gridiron at Western Kansas University, where he was a student and an outstanding football player, to the college lectern at that university, where he reinvents himself as a talented assistant professor. Despite academic demands, he is drawn back into football as a member of the university athletics board. Early in his appointment, a serious cheating episode carried out by members of the football team drives Mike to find a way to right the wrongs which contaminate the sport. The journey is complex, challenging, even violent. He could never have anticipated the final impact of his efforts.

Patricia Biegner was born in Illinois, moving to Hawaii when she was five. Patricia found her passion for  lei making in her Late teens, after many afternoons with family and friends.

Patricia won her first Lei contest at Wailoa Center in Hilo.

The spark was ignited- Patricia found herself making leis all the time, reading lei making books seeking out other lei makers asking for instruction, guidance and slowly developing her own style.

Patricia has won many lei contests around the Big Island. She has taught at the annual festival at Puu Honua and in small settings when requested.

Putting together her book Lei Making Instructions and Techniques- has been a dream come true.

Phil Gibson served in the U.S. Air Force and discovered the thrill of travel. An MBA from Thunderbird graduate school led to job opportunities in the U.S., Middle East and Singapore, where he finally settled. He became an entrepreneur in the restaurant and events industry, developing multiple highly acclaimed restaurants.

Phil has written for Tatler Magazine, Journal of the International Wine and Food Society and has had a regular column on wine and wine travel (The Wine Road) in Asia and the USA.  He is currently working on the next book, Travel By Taste. Phil loves to travel, cook and entertain.

Sally Hammond, is a former computer techie, manager at an international hotel, event planner and university teacher, the typical varied career of a military spouse. She is now a volunteer, traveler and hostess. Featured in local papers for her work with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), Sally serves on the NFB Hawai’i Affiliate Board and is a past president of the West Hawai’i Chapter. Her new book collaboration, Frangipani and Leaky Boats, was completed after her vision loss developed. Sally also enjoys scuba diving, baking, entertaining, and gardening.

Frangipani and Leaky Boats, Bring Your Life to the Table  reinvigorates the art of home entertaining.  Readers will be drawn to revisit this anecdotal treasury of exotic locations and actual adventures again and again. Phil and Sally illustrate the ease of creating atmospheres that engage your guests, promote conviviality and memorable moments at the table. Whether the setting is a vast marble clad reception hall in an Arabian Villa or a tiny red cottage on the slopes of a Hawaiian volcano, the authors show that true hospitality is born from a genuine atmosphere of warmth and welcome.

Written in a lively, charming and easy conversational style, Frangipani and Leaky Boats is like a satisfying visit with an old friend. Its colorful and relatable stories inform the creation of table top environments for such diverse occasions as a Tapas Party or Chinese New Year. The authors make it clear that lovely tables are not dependent on ownership of expensive linens or heavy silver, however wonderful those possessions may be. Indeed, they are nice to have and should be used with abandon and not relegated to a dark closet. But cuttings from the garden or an interesting rock collected from a leisurely stroll down a dusty country lane become treasures for the table in the hands of Sally and Phil.  Even a vacation souvenir may often be more engaging than French porcelain. That’s why this book is more than a collection of stories. It’s an invitation to enjoy entertaining with a personal touch.
