 May's Authors Are:

Although Veryl Ann Grace learned to knit and crochet at her grandmother’s knee, her real passion for fiber arts began when she realized she could create yarn from all the hair her beloved Great Pyrenees shed.  That was over thirty years ago and she can still be found spinning, knitting and weaving fiber of all kinds including livestock guardian dog hair. A longtime resident of Washington state, she currently lives in Hawaii with her husband, Glenn, and her dog, Bruce. She is the author of Murder Spins a Tale and Murder Comes Unraveled.

Murder Spins a Tale:

Denied justice weaves a web of revenge and death in this cozy mystery. A beautiful winter morning gives no hint of the danger that will engulf Martha Williamson, owner of The Spider's Web — a shop specializing in spinning and weaving. Living with her two Great Pyrenees dogs, Falcor and Denali, on a small farm near Black Hills, Washington, Martha has come to cherish the quiet life she created after the violent death of her husband in a car accident. However, the news spreads fast when Martha discovers a burglary of the town's beauty salon; and her friends fear another robbery. Gossip becomes reality; burglary becomes murder; and Martha's business card is found at the scene. When Falcor discovers the murder weapon and Martha is threatened, she is driven to find the killer. Taking the reader into her world of fiber arts, Martha, with Denali and Falcor at her side, spins her way through a tangle of clues, deception and danger.

Murder Comes Unraveled:

It’s a beautiful afternoon in May and set up for The Black Hills Fiber Gathering is in full swing. Martha Williamson, owner of The Spider’s Web—a shop specializing in spinning and weaving, is looking forward to four glorious days of selling and talking fiber and fiber tools as she organizes her booth and gets her alpaca settled in their stall. But when Falcor, her Great Pyrenees, finds a body, she is pulled into the agony of a terrible accident. Or is it? As one person after another seems to have reason for wanting the victim dead, Martha is more and more certain that there was no accident. But if it was murder, who did it and why? When there is another attack and Martha is threatened, it becomes obvious that she needs to find the answers.  With her steadfast Great Pyrenees, Denali and Falcor. by her side, Martha begins to unravel the mystery. But will she be fast enough to forestall a killer’s hand?

Sometimes we need help to know that what we want or feel is okay. Or that we’re okay, just as we are. Precious Girl, No Matter What was written to provide this guidance and comfort to girls regardless of their age, what they may be going through, or where they may come from.

Amber Makamae Shepp:

Lauhala are leaves of the hala tree, a tree which holds great importance of culture throughout the Pacific Islands. The leaves are used to weave materials into mats, hats and more. In my sense, “lauhala” is weaving beliefs, culture, emotion and pretty much anything that defines the pure beauty of a person and then produced into a photograph. This is my take on a visual storyteller.

Years ago, I began as a visual storyteller capturing beauty in cultures through photographs. My passion sank into the pure allurement of each person who appeared in front of my lens.I grew up on a small island in the Marianas, called Saipan. Traveling throughout Micronesia, Asia and the Hawaiian Islands, a variety of cultures and environments gave me reasons to capture them on film. So then my passion for photography evolved; and took off about ten years ago when my children became professional models. Spending my time behind the scenes during their shoots, sparked my curiosity within the industry. I invested in various cameras throughout the years and really honed in on taking scenic, portrait and lifestyle photographs. I have found incredible joy being a professional photographer.

As an island girl, a devoted mother, a traveler and an action sports chick, I gained more love for photography throughout my adventurous life. I also hold a degree in graphic and website design, and have over 15 years of photo editing experience.I feel very fortunate to have a career that I absolutely love and enjoy while also being able to spend quality time with my family. I want to share the beauty of humans and nature that I am capable of digitally capturing on film! I love to laugh and learn! I enjoy watching The Golden Girls, surf vids,  movies and shows from the 90's. Often when I miss the islands, I listen to reggae and Hawaiian jams. My greatest passions are my children, dancing hula, surfing and photography. I spend two hours in the gym lifting weights every morning, BUT I'm a sucker for spam musubi, sushi and ahi poke, chocolate cake and ice cream! I am super silly, and even love to play pranks on people. My personal goals are to travel tons to experience and photograph favorites such as surfing, wake surfing, snowboarding and dancing hula.
