Words and Wine

Each month Kona Stories hosts an event with local and traveling authors. This event happens the First Tuesday evening of the month starting at 6 PM. Authors are available to talk story while you are getting your plate of appetizers and glass of complimentary wine. Authors then give a 15 minute talk about their book and themselves, the writing and publishing process or a short reading from the book. After all the authors presentations there is a time for individual questions and book signings with the authors. Expect 2 - 3 authors to attend each month and the evening to wrap up around 8 PM. Dress is Aloha casual wear.

Dave Fouts was born and raised in the Midwest and had rarely been over 50 miles from home until going into the army at the age of eighteen. After college he went to Alaska and stayed until 2003 then he moved to Hawaii Island. In Alaska Fouts worked various jobs, but mostly was in the field of education; much of that in the bush, living in isolated Yupik Eskimo villages. In Hawaii he worked in the Honokaa schools as a counselor.  Since retirement, Fouts enjoys writing, practicing Qi-Gong, meditation, going to the gym, beach time and chopping away at the vegetation on his five acres of land.

Dave Fouts’ book, Was This It?, is a mix of prose, prose poetry, and poems. Fouts calls this genre style slipstream, a crossover of science fiction, fantasy, and literary fiction.

Fouts write about Jesus rising up from the earth and still being in movement to parts unknown. He tries to answer questions like:  why do you pat your dear aunt on the head like a cocker spaniel, why is it necessary to give your hamburger a personal name or what does your soul look like? He will also tackle topics dealing with loneliness, loss, experiences in isolated villages with failing missionaries, army life in Korea, and time spent on the moon.

Sheila Gallien is a writer, surfer, single mom, newly minted “channel,” and fierce focus expert. She loves to navigate worlds, having worked at diverse levels in business, entertainment, hospitality and sales.  In January of 2017, in the depth of a six-week illness, she had the surprising experience of beginning to “channel.” Skeptical at first, she finally surrendered, and began an intimate conversation with a higher consciousness, the Heart Center of the Heart Center of the Universe. Her mission is to unlock heaven on earth by mastering her own gifts, and helping others to activate and master theirs. She posts her channelings and writings at sheilagallien.life, and is a contributor for Thrive Global and Vunela. She lives on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Sheila Gallien’s channeled book, Bridging Ascension, questions and answers for the surprised ascender, is a playful and loving guidebook for the believer or non-believer about the ascension of the planet from a 3D consciousness to 5D and beyond. This book is a totally practical guidance about the changing energies of our planet, our bodies, and our choices. The Heart Center of the Heart Center of the Universe, beings of unspeakable love and light, has a message for you. We are building a superhighway of the heart, we are awakening to our multi-dimensional natures, our gifts are being activated, and we are in for the ride of our lives. Leaf through this simple book, and then try it yourself! Your gifts are your gateway to the new consciousness. Access to your own wisdom is the gateway to your gifts. Love is the way, and you are your own guide!

Sonia Martinez was born in Cuba a very long time ago. She has always been drawn to tropical climes and cuisines and have lived on the Island of Hawai‘i for the last 23 of her 80 years, in a beautiful small village, where she loved to play in the garden, grow herbs, collect cookbooks, test recipes, visit farms, read voraciously, and work on jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

Through the years, she has owned kitchen/gourmet shops and cooking schools—first in Orangeburg, South Carolina and later in the Miami, Florida area.

After moving to Hawai‘i in 1994, she and her son opened Akaka Falls Inn—a B&B, cooking school and gourmet gift shop in Honomu for several years.

By serendipity, Sonia fell into writing about food and cooking and since early 1999, she has been a free-lance food writer and columnist for several newspapers and magazines, until her “official retirement” at the end of 2016.

Her third book, Sonia Tastes Hawai'i, is a compilation of five years’ worth of columns for Ke Ola Magazine and Ke Ola Weddings and Special Events Magazine.

The articles and recipes found in Sonia Tastes Hawai'i are inspired by Sonia’s adventures and visits to all the wonderful farmers markets and CSA farmers on Hawai‘i Island.

Hawai‘i Island has some of the most varied climates, elevations, and growing conditions of any other land in the Pacific Ocean.
