Book Groups and More!
"There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts." -Charles Dickens. But these books are NOT the ones we read in our book groups!
Second Tuesday:- Our Fiction Group:
Choose your Dickens! Charles Dickens was born 200 years ago this year; his name "conjures up visions of plum pudding and Christmas punch, quaint coaching inns and cozy firesides, but also of orphaned and starving children, misers, murderers, and abusive schoolmasters. Dickens was 19th century London personified, he survived its mean streets as a child and, largely self-educated, possessed the genius to become the greatest writer of his age" -from David Perdue's Charles Dickens Page. So, re-read your favorite Dickens novel or pick-up a new one and come have a fun discussion.
Event Info:
Tuesday, May 8th at 6:30pm
Lesbian Group:
We are reading Inseparable: Desire Between Women in Literature by Emma Donoghue. Donoghue examines how desire between women in English literature has been portrayed, from schoolgirls and vampires to runaway wives, from cross-dressing knights to contemporary murder stories.
Event Info:
Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30pm
Just the Facts- Our Non-Fiction Group:
At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson will be the topic of discussion at the next meeting of this group. With his signature wit, charm, and seemingly limitless knowledge, Bryson takes us on a room-by-room tour through his own house, using each room as a jumping off point into the vast history of the domestic artifacts we take for granted.

OK writers: Here's a guy that's figured out how you can write that runaway best seller. Hit Lit from James Hall is described here by Laura Miller. What do you think, is there a 'formula'?
