We need paperbacks! As most of you know, we sell both new and used books at Kona Stories. By far the most popular are mystery, spy, thrillers and such, but we're running low after tourist season. So, if you need an excuse to clean out that closet, bring in your good condition, used paperbacks. For each book we can take, we'll give you $1 store credit for the mass markets (the small paperbacks) and $2 for the trade paperbacks. Thanks!

Book Groups and More!
"When you reread a classic, you do not see more in the book than you did before; you see more in you than there was before"-Cliff Fadiman
Our Lesbian Group:Next up for this group is The Girls Club by Sally Bellerose. This insightful novel of independence and family ties is the latest winner of the Bywater Prize for Fiction. Publisher's Weekly says: "A fast-paced, well-written tale with characters who will linger in the reader's memory long after the final page is turned". Event Info: Tuesday, April 17th at 6:30pm
Just the Facts- Our Non-fiction Group:
We're going to take a field trip to discuss our next book, Poseidon's Steed: The Story of Seahorses, from Myth to Reality by Helen Scales. A fascinating journey with the sea creature that has captured human imagination for thousands of years, Poseidon's Steed trails the seahorse through secluded waters across the globe in a kaleidoscopic history that mirrors humankind's centuries-old fascination with the animal.
We have a new day and time for this group of like-minded people interested in cooking, cookbooks and talking about it with others. Kona Stories cooking maven, Tiare facilitates a monthly Culinary group. This month's theme is "PUPUS". Please bring your favorite pupu and printed recipes to share with the group. Everyone is welcome; you do not need to attend each time if you cannot. Come when you can. This group is free, but donations are appreciated.
Event Info:
Thursday, May 3rd at 5:30 pm
Second Tuesday:- Our Fiction Group:
Choose your Dickens! Charles Dickens is 200 this year; his name "conjures up visions of plum pudding and Christmas punch, quaint coaching inns and cozy firesides, but also of orphaned and starving children, misers, murderers, and abusive schoolmasters. Dickens was 19th century London personified, he survived its mean streets as a child and, largely self-educated, possessed the genius to become the greatest writer of his age" -from David Perdue's Charles Dickens Page. So, re-read your favorite Dickens novel or pick-up a new one and come have a fun discussion.

Thanks to our regular Second Tuesday book club participant, Michelle, we have a pretty complete list of the books we've read in that group. Do you keep a book journal? Pamela Paul's been doing it since 1988. I kept one for about 5 years, but got out of the habit. Both Brenda and I are now trying to keep our journals on Goodreads.
