Hank Wesselman's newest book is Bowl of Light.  Through the words and teachings of the kahuna wisdom-keeper Hale Makua, Dr. Hank Wesselman was gifted with an enhanced perspective into the sacred knowledge of ancient Hawai'i. Before his passing, elder Makua encouraged Dr. Wesselman to convey much of what had passed between them and gave permission to share his spiritual knowledge.

Time for a Diet?

Noble
Does this cushion make me look fat?
Shadow and Noble just had their annual vet visit and we received stern warnings about their weight, so they are now on a diet! They are quite sure we don't love them any more and would appreciate any sympathy you can give.

Meanwhile, if you're looking to improve your health, get in shape or go on a diet, we'd like to offer you 10% off all health, diet and fitness books as a show of support for Noble and Shadow's diet.  This offer good now through the end of July.

Book Clubs and More:

"The Second Tuesday" book group is reading A Reliable Wife by Robert GoolrickIn rural Wisconsin in 1909, Ralph Truitt stands alone on a train platform waiting for the woman who answered his newspaper advertisement for "a reliable wife." But when Catherine Land steps off the train from Chicago, she's not the "simple, honest woman" that Ralph is expecting. We will discuss on Tuesday, July 12th at 6:30pm.

Game Night is moving to once a month.  Next game night will be Friday, July 15th at 6pm.  Bring your favorite game and meet some new friends.

Tuesday, July 19th at 6:30pm our Lesbian Group will watch the movie "Elena Undone".  By turns sensual, smart and funny, writer-director Nicole Conn's semi-autobiographical tale explores the contemporary landscape of connection and commitment.

Packing for Mars by Mary Roach will be the topic at our next "Just the Facts" non-fiction group meeting on Tuesday July 26 at 6pm.  "America's funniest science writer" ("Washington Post") returns to explore the irresistibly strange universe of life without gravity in this "New York Times" bestseller. It's all about those things NASA doesn't delve into at press conferences.  Joy's money back guarantee for first-time participants in this book group: read the book, come to our discussion and if you don't like the book we'll give you your money back!
Do you read fiction for therapy?  You're not alone according to 'The Millions' which tries to answer the question: Why do people read literary fiction?  On the other hand, one literary icon, like many older readers have turned away from made-up stories. Why? Regardless of which camp you're in, we have the book group for you (see above).
