This Saturday, April 30 the Keauhou Shopping Center will be happenin'!  This busy day starts with the every Saturday Farmer's Market from 8 to Noon.  Overlapping the farmer's market from 10am to 1pm is a Lei Day/May Day celebration for the keiki in the courtyard.  Jams World Boutique is having their official grand opening from 1 to 3pm with live radio remote with Keith Baschon.  The Hawaii Island Writer's Association Open Mic, sponsored by Kona Stories, is from 3 to 5pm. And as if that's not enough, The Big Event the Hui Kako'o Benefit Concert Series in aid of the Hawaii Foodbank begins at 5:30 with E Ola Hawai'i followed by Brudda Waltah at 6pm. Whew!  And all these events are FREE!  So, if you're not headed to Hilo for Merrie Monarch this weekend, you need to be at the Keauhou Shopping Center.

Book Clubs and More: 

"The Second Tuesday Book Group" is reading A Novel Bookstore by Laurence Cosse.  Elegantly mixing the mystery and literary fiction genres, French author Cosse presents a paean to the love of good books that is sure to keep readers riveted from the first page to the last. This group meets Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30pm.

Our Lesbian group will watch a movie on Tuesday, May 17th at 6:30pm.  Room in Rome
during one memorable, passionate night two women become emotionally closer as they share their deepest secrets and desires.

"Just the Facts" our non-fiction group is reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.   Acclaimed author Skloot brilliantly weaves together the story of Henrietta Lacks--a woman whose cells have been unwittingly used for scientific research since the 1950s--with the birth of bioethics, and the dark history of experimentation on African Americans.
We will meet on Tuesday, May 31 @ 5pm.

Game Night is moving to once a month.  We will schedule a date for June when we are back from BookExpo.
The Help by Katherine Stockett is now in paperback; this wonderful book is coming soon as a movie watch the trailer here: Trailer for The HelpIn Jackson, Mississippi, in 1962, there are lines that are not crossed. With the civil rights movement exploding all around them, three women start a movement of their own, forever changing a town and the way women--black and white, mothers and daughters--view one another. The movie's due out in August, so add this to your summer reading list and be ready!
