| Aloha! |
Official news is out this morning: Borders will close their Kailua-Kona store. Borders has been a troubled company for several years now and the news of their bankruptcy is not a big surprise to those in the industry. They are closing 200 stores nation-wide and both their Maui store and the Kona store are among them. Brenda and I feel deeply for the people that will be out of work as a result of these store closings. We believe that brick and mortar bookstores are a good thing and add heart and value to a community. We all lose something when a bookstore closes. If you'd like to learn more about Borders you can visit: Publishers Weekly. To learn more about what we think the impact will be for Kona Stories, read on.

Kona Stories and the closing of Borders

While we're sorry to see a business close, obviously, we hope the impact on Kona Stories will be positive.
We've always adjusted our inventory to the interests of our customers (one of the major advantages of being a local independent bookstore!). We currently carry all categories of books; as we identify increased interest in an area, we'll expand our selection. In the meanwhile, we can special order any book; we don't charge for shipping and can have most titles in a week.
We'll continue our existing book groups, our local author events and other events. We're open to starting more groups and hosting more events of interest to the community. Let us know what you want to see!
