Elizabeth Kincaid has lived and worked in Soquel for nine years. She is originally from Seattle and lived in the Philadelphia area before moving here. She paints a variety of subject matter in watercolor, including flowers, birds, animals, and landscapes. She works in a realistic style that is strongly graphic and impressionistic and builds her paintings from many thin glazes of color. She is known for her brilliant and luminous use of color and for the way her paintings are filled with light.
Elizabeth has a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Washington and worked for a number of years in that field. She was a graphic designer for a community college in Seattle and did freelance illustration. She has taught watercolor privately in Seattle and the Philadelphia area for many years and is teaching and painting here in her home studio.
Her work has appeared in a number of juried shows over the years, in Washington, Pennsylvania, and California. Her paintings have won Best-of-Show in the Delaware County Art League 1991 and 1995 shows, 2nd place for watercolor in the Impressions XIII show in 1994, 2nd place in Chester County Art Association 1995 watercolor show. In 1995, she served as juror for the Greater Norristown Art League. She has shown in the 1992 Pennsylvania Watercolor Society annual show and the 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1997 Philadelphia Water Color Club annual shows. She is a signature member and past treasurer of the Philadelphia Water Color Club.
She has shown in the Santa Cruz Art League Horizons show and the 2000 Statewide show and was a juror for the 2000 High School Show for the watercolor category. Last year was Elizabeth's eighth Open Studio show, and in addition to participation in a 5 artists show in Capitola in 1998, she has shown at the Motivation Fitness Plus and at Hollin's House, Aragona's and Paradise Beach Grill restaurants. She had large solo shows at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis in 1999 2002.
One of her paintings has been chosen for publication in the "Splash 6" book, published by North Light Press and another will be published in Splash 7. Her book, Paint Watercolors That Dance With Light , will be out in Fall, 2004.
She has been represented by The Gallery at Centerville in Wilmington, DE (solo shows in 1991 and 1994), The Studio gallery in Swarthmore, PA (a solo show in 1992), and the Museo Gallery in Langley, WA (solo shows every year from 1994 through 2002. In 1994 she had a solo show at American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and she was part of a five-artist show at the Deshong Museum in Chester, PA. In 1997, she had a show at the Santa Cruz Co. Government Center. In 2000, she was one of the People's Choice artists from the Members show of the Art League and took part in the invitational show in December.
In 2004, Elizabeth has shown work in The Northwest Watercolor Society annual juried show, the California Watercolor Association annual juried show, the Side-by-Side juried member show of the joint National Watercolor Society and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, and the American Experience show at the Santa Cruz Art League. She was also invited to participate in the invitational Splat Art Tour in Santa Cruz County, CA.
