Bates, Robert L. (Lopaka) PDF Print E-mail

Lopaka has lived most of his life in Hawaii. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1940, his family was transferred to Oahu ten years later. In 1963, he moved to Kona, on the Big Island where he still resides today. Traveling has also inspired him to paint his interpretations of life in Alaska and other parts of the world.

Lopaka's book "Lopaka's Legends of Hawaii" are lessons of life taught to the Hawaiians as they were handed down from one generation to another. When you live in the beautiful island state of hawaii, you will learn of the many myths and legends that were the beliefs of the ancient people. These legends and myths explain many of the words and customs of today's Hawaii.

Lopaka paints his interpretations of these stories in watercolors.
