An Introduction to Qigong
with Sifu John W. Adams

What is Qigong? Qigong is a method of exercise practiced to promote good health and long life.  Qi (chee) translates as life force. Gong, to work.  Through movement, breathing and mental focus ones qi is worked, or circulated. With qi flowing more smoothly, the body is better able to adjust itself towards a balanced, dis-ease free state.

Why Eight Pieces of Brocade?  This form of Qigong was created by a Chinese military general as a health exercise for his soldiers.  It consists of eight movements.  It is simple to learn and can be done sitting or standing.  It benefits young and old alike because of its self regulating aspects.  I prefer Eight Pieces as an introductory form because its simplicity allows the student the ability to integrate the principles of qigong into ones daily practice more readily and at their own pace.  It is my contention that it is more important how a student practices than what one practices.  We also cover gathering qi, clearing qi, and basic stances common to all Qigong.

Drop ins:  Each of my classes are complete unto themselves.  What is learned in one class can be taken, practiced and be of benefit to the student.  Although weekly attendance is preferable, you will take something of substance home. We practice, review and learn two of the eight movements each class. Gathering, clearing, breathing and static stances are taught and practiced each week.

Class fee:  $50/ month   $15 drop in fee
Class time:  Wednesday’s, 4:30pm to 6pm
